Fixed Braces vs. Removable Braces

When it comes to modern orthodontics, patients are spoiled for choice. Not so long ago, patients who had crooked or crowded teeth or problems with their bite had to wear fixed train-track style braces, but now there are so many options available and solutions suitable for all kinds of different orthodontic issues. We offer fixed and removable braces and there are pros and cons to each type of treatment.

Fixed braces

Fixed braces have been around for a long time and are very effective. There are various systems, including traditional braces as well as lingual braces. Patients with minor, moderate or complex issues can benefit from fixed brace treatment. The simplicity of fixed brace treatment is appealing to many patients and also the fact that success is guaranteed, rather than hanging on the assumption that the patient will wear their removable brace for the required time each day. Fixed braces do their have downsides. They are more difficult to clean than removable braces, they can be uncomfortable, especially if they need adjusting, and there is a risk that food can become stuck in the brackets and around the wires.

Removable braces

Removable braces give patients more control during the treatment process and many patients prefer the freedom of being able to take their brace out. This also makes it easy to eat and means that you can clean your teeth properly, which helps to reduce the risk of gum disease and cavities. Many removable braces, such as Invisalign, are also very discreet, which makes for excellent aesthetics during the treatment process. The cons of removable braces are that the process is more convoluted and you have to remember to swap your aligners or take them in and out. Also, the success of treatment is heavily dependent on the patient. If you neglect to wear your aligners for the required time, treatment may not be as successful as you hoped.

What Makes Invisalign So Extraordinary?

Invisalign has taken the world of dentistry by storm, but why is it so popular and should you be rushing out to enjoy the benefits of Invisalign treatment?

The ins and outs of Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear brace treatment that has already helped more than a million people to enjoy stunning straight smiles. Invisalign offers a new take on orthodontic treatment as it uses a series of custom-fit removable aligners rather than a single fixed brace. The aligners are light, comfortable and most importantly for many patients, they are virtually invisible. Invisalign treatment involves a simple process: you are given a sequence of aligners, each of which is worn for two weeks at a time and then replaced until treatment is complete. The aligners should be removed when you eat, drink and clean your teeth, but you should wear them for at least 21 hours per day.

What’s so good about Invisalign?

Invisalign has been developed with the needs and preferences of patients in mind and provides a solution to any of the complaints commonly made by dental patients. Firstly, the aligners are incredibly discreet, so you can smile with confidence and go through the treatment process without worrying about what other people think or how you feel when you smile in public. The aligners are also comfortable and convenient as you can carry on as normal in terms of brushing your teeth and eating and you don’t have to worry about uncomfortable metal bands or tightening the braces. Invisalign is also versatile, as it is suited to patients with a wide range of mild or moderate orthodontic issues. If you have crooked or misaligned teeth and are looking for an invisible treatment that has it all, call today and find out more about incredible Invisalign.

Straighten Wonky Teeth swiftly in Western-Super-Mare

4108508_blogMost people assume that orthodontic treatment takes years, but at Clifton Dental of Bristol we are delighted to offer an extremely swift treatment, which straightens the teeth in just 4 months. The Inman Aligner is a removable brace, which takes just 6-16 weeks to move the teeth and create a healthier looking, more attractive smile. This appliance uses forces generated by a coiled spring and a metal bar to squeeze the teeth, causing them to move in the right direction. Unlike fixed braces, the Inman Aligner is removable, which makes eating and cleaning the teeth completely hassle-free and the metal bar, which runs along the front teeth, is much more discreet than a conventional brace. The Inman Aligner works very quickly for two main reasons; firstly, the technology involved accelerates tooth movement and secondly, the treatment is aimed specifically at patients with minor orthodontic issues. Dr Neil Gerrard is one of the UK’s first dentists to offer this incredible treatment and we have helped hundreds of patients to enjoy a beaming, straight smile. As well as offering comfort, convenience and speed, the Inman Aligner is also much less expensive than many of the other cosmetic braces on the market. If you’ve been looking for a swift solution for slightly crooked tooth or mild crowding, this could be an excellent option.
