What is the Best Way to Replace a Tooth?

Today, there are some really impressive treatments around to replace missing teeth, so if you have a missing tooth, there’s no need to panic. At Clifton Dental Studio we understand what a difference a healthy smile makes and we are delighted to offer a range of treatment options for patients who have lost teeth through injury, decay, gum disease or trauma. Our treatment choices include dental bridges, dentures and dental implants.

Bridges

Dental bridges are an easy, affordable and effective solution for lost teeth and they are a great choice for patients who have a single lost tooth or a small number of missing teeth. A traditional fixed dental bridge is made up of a false tooth anchored on either side by a crown. Bridges can be made from ceramics for a natural aesthetic and they should last up to 15 years, provided they are well cared-for. Treatment usually involves 2-3 sessions and takes 2-3 weeks.

Dentures

Dentures are sets of false teeth designed to look and function like natural teeth. We offer partial and complete dentures made from the finest quality materials to produce durable dentures that look healthy and bright. Dentures are suitable for patients with multiple missing teeth and they are bespoke. Denture treatment is swift and painless and once you have your dentures, we will check the fit regularly to prevent any irritation.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a long-term option for tooth loss and they offer many benefits including enhanced functionality, natural aesthetics and easy maintenance. The treatment process is more invasive than other treatments and treatment time is much longer. However, once implants are in place, they are very easy to care for and they last for many years. Our expert dentists will be happy to weigh up the options with you and discuss the pros and cons. Every patient is different and what is best for one client may not be ideal for another. When you have a consultation, we can assess your needs and ascertain your treatment preferences and expectations and then provide you with the information you need to help you make a decision.

Get Yourself a Christmas Crown and Smile Your Way into the New Year in Bristol

Crowns are usually reserved for Kings and Queens, but at Clifton Dental Studio we believe that every patient should be treated as a VIP! We can provide Christmas crowns to ensure that you start the New Year with a beaming smile.

What are crowns?

Crowns are restorative appliances, that are designed to strengthen and protect the teeth. They sit over your natural tooth and help to prevent damage and spread of infection. Crowns are also known as caps. You may be advised to have crown treatment if you have had a large filling in the past, your tooth has been damaged extensively or your tooth is infected. Crowns help to make a weak tooth stronger, and the procedure involves removing decayed tissue to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria spreading through the tooth. In cases where an infection has reached the pulp tissue, it is common to perform root canal treatment and then place a new crown. Crowns can also have aesthetic benefits. We can also use crowns to replace a missing tooth. In this case, the crown is attached to a dental implant. The implant replaces the root section of the lost tooth.

How long does a crown last?

Once a crown has been placed, it should last for around 10 years. Crowns can be made from metals or ceramics and treatment usually takes 2 sessions. The first session is designed to prepare the tooth and the second session involves placing the crown. A temporary crown will be fitted to bridge the gap between the 1st and 2nd appointments.  It’s important to take good care of a crown and look after it in the same way as a natural tooth. We will check your crown at every routine check-up.

Give Your Smile a Christmas Treat with Dental Implants in Bath

If all you want for Christmas is perfect teeth, we have just the answer. Our amazing implants are the perfect Christmas gift for patients with missing teeth.

About dental implants

Dental implants are a revolutionary innovation, which has changed the shape of modern dentistry. With this treatment, we are able to offer a permanent solution to tooth loss and enable our patients to enjoy beautiful, functional smiles. Implants are made from titanium, a biocompatible material that enables the implant to integrate into the bone tissue in the same way as a natural root. Implants are placed inside small sockets in the jaw bone, and the process of osseointegration begins. Once the implant has settled completely, it can be attached to a new restoration and this replaces the tooth crown. Implants offer the same level of stability as a natural tooth root and they are extremely versatile, providing a solution for patients of all ages with diverse dental needs.

Are implants the best choice for me?

Dental implants are suitable for most patients and they can be used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. Implants are often preferable to other options, such as bridges and dentures, because they last a lifetime and represent a long-term option. Implants also help to reduce bone loss and offer enhanced tooth function due to the stability of the new tooth root. In order to determine which treatment option is best for patients, we offer consultations in which our dentists to analyse a patient’s needs and examine their mouth to ascertain their oral health status. Once they are aware of the patient’s needs and preferences, our dentists can discuss options and help you to decide which one suits you best. If you’d like to find out more about innovative implants this Christmas, call now and book your consultation!

Rejuvenate Your Smile in Time for the New Year in Bath

Smile rejuvenation, also known as full mouth reconstruction, is a service we offer to transform the smile and enable patients with severe dental needs to enjoy greater confidence.

What is smile rejuvenation?

We recommend smile rejuvenation for patients who require extensive dental treatment as a result of severe decay, periodontal disease, injuries or problems sustained as a result of an accident or trauma. We use a series of treatments which may include dental bridges, crowns, dental implants and veneers to reconstruct the teeth and create a beautiful new aesthetic. Dr Neil Gerrard has many years of experience in advanced restorative dentistry, and is renowned for achieving amazing outcomes. We can assure you that you are in the best hands!

The treatment process

The planning stage is of paramount importance and we devote time to assessing each individual patient, analysing their dental needs and evaluating the strength of your bone tissue, oral health status and bite. The aim of the assessment is to build up an accurate picture of your mouth and determine the best course of action for going forward. We do this by using digital X-rays and thorough examinations. During the planning stage, we will discuss treatment options with you. We’ll outline what the different treatments offer and what procedures entail, and we’ll build up a picture of what we expect to achieve. Your ideas are very important to us and we work as a team to create the designs for your new smile.

How long does treatment take?

When you have your consultation and you have decided which treatments you are going to have, your dentist will be able to give you an accurate prediction of treatment time. The time treatment takes is heavily dependent on the treatments involved. If you have specific date or occasion in mind, we can work with this and tailor your treatment package to the desired time-frame.

Dental Crowns Fit for a King in Chepstow

Crowns are usually reserved for kings and queens, but at Clifton Dental Studio, we believe all our patients deserve the royal treatment. With our incredible dental crowns, we can create strong, beautiful teeth to make you look and feel like a VIP.

About dental crowns

Dental crowns are restorations, and are used to strengthen teeth following accidents, injuries or infections that leave them weak and vulnerable. Crowns are placed over the top of the tooth, and they help to protect the tooth from damage, decrease the risk of a spread of infection and make the tooth look more attractive. We often recommend porcelain crowns, as they produce stunning, natural looking aesthetics and offer strength and durability. We can use crowns alone or as part of more intensive restorative treatment, such as dental implant treatment or bridgework.

What happens when a tooth is crowned?

Before a tooth is crowned, the tooth is prepared. This involves removing all the decayed tissue, cleaning the tooth thoroughly and then shaping it. Once the tooth is ready, we will use dental putty to create a mould of your tooth. This is used by our highly skilled technicians to create your bespoke crown. When your crown is ready, we will place it over the top of your tooth and then secure it firmly using strong dental adhesive. It should fit perfectly and you should find that you get used to it very quickly. Modern crowns are much lighter and less cumbersome than the restorations of old.

How long should my crown last?

Crowns usually last for around 10 years provided that they are well looked-after.
