Clifton Dental Studio offers a comprehensive range of general dental services in addition to preventative treatments, including hygienist services. We are proud to promote healthy, happy smiles and we try to encourage our clients, young and old, to live by the motto ‘prevention is better than cure’.
Our amazing hygienists
We are fortunate to have excellent dental hygienists in our team and they provide a range of highly beneficial treatments for patients of all ages. Seeing a hygienist is incredibly important for patients with existing oral health issues, such as gum disease, but it can also really benefit those who have good oral health.
For younger patients in Bristol and beyond, we offer preventative services, such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealant treatment. Fluoride is applied to the teeth to strengthen the enamel and reduce the risk of cavities, while fissure sealant treatment provides a protective barrier to prevent food debris and bacteria getting lodged in the tiny pits on the tooth surface. Both of these treatments are completely painless and they only take a few minutes.
For adult patients, we offer intensive, highly effective cleaning treatments, bad breath clinics and treatment for gum disease. We are also on hand to offer advice about oral hygiene at home, giving up smoking and healthy eating.
Our hygienists work alongside our dentists to provide the best standards of care for patients with gum disease and we do everything we can to ease symptoms and halt the progress of the condition as quickly as possible.
How often should I see a hygienist?
If you have existing oral health issues, for example gum disease or halitosis, it is advisable to see a hygienist on a regular basis and your dentist will recommend frequent sessions. If you have good oral health, seeing a hygienist can still be advantageous and we generally recommend an annual hygiene session.
Dental hygienists are experts in oral hygiene and aim to promote good oral health through oral hygiene. A dental hygienist may also be involved in the treatment of oral health diseases.
Why would I need to see a dental hygienist?
Even people who brush their teeth twice a day may need to see a dental hygienist at some point for an extra level of cleanliness. Hygienists provide cleaning treatments that are much more intensive and effective than brushing with a manual brush and can help prevent oral health diseases from developing.
Cleaning treatments, such as a scale and polish, are powerful cleaning treatments that remove plaque and bacteria and can shift tartar and bacteria from areas that are hard to reach with a brush. Your hygienist will be able to see any problem areas and address them, helping you to reduce the risk of developing symptoms associated with dental problems. Such symptoms include swelling, pain, soreness and bleeding.
Your dentist may refer you to a hygienist if your teeth could benefit from a thorough clean or you are suffering from gingivitis, an early form of gum disease. You can arrange an appointment if you feel in need of a deep clean; many people enjoy the feeling of a deep clean as it leaves their teeth feeling smooth and looking shiny and healthy.
Dental hygiene tips
Dental hygiene is key for good oral health and a good everyday oral hygiene routine will help to prevent dental problems and enable you to flash a healthy, radiant smile. Your daily oral hygiene routine should incorporate using a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush morning and evening, as well as flossing and using mouthwash. Visiting your dentist for regular check-ups is also really important and most dentists advise patients to attend check-ups every six to twelve months.
Whether you suffer with dental health problems, you are prone to plaque build-up or you just want to give your teeth and gums a healthy treat, we recommend a visit to our fantastic hygienists.
At Clifton Dental Studio, we pride ourselves on providing the very best preventative and hygiene treatment to combat issues such as tooth discolouration, bad breath and gum disease. The cleaning power of hygiene treatments is a lot stronger than just brushing at home, and in just half an hour you will be astonished by the difference it has made. As well as battling oral hygiene problems, a scale and polish will also give your mouth a deep clean, leaving you with a dazzling smile.
What is a scale and polish?
If you have issues with plaque or tartar build-up on your teeth, or you suffer from halitosis or gum disease, you may be advised to have a scale and polish. During this treatment, bacteria, tartar and plaque are removed, and your teeth are given a thorough clean. We use specially designed dental equipment to scale the teeth, enabling us to easily remove stubborn plaque deposits from the gumline, tooth surfaces and gaps between the teeth. When this has been removed, we will thoroughly clean and polish your teeth, leaving them with a smooth and glossy feel.
How often should I see a hygienist?
At Clifton Dental Studio we recommend regular hygiene sessions for all our patients, so that you can maintain the very highest standards of oral health. But if you have a high risk of oral issues, or existing problems such as gum disease, you may have to visit us rather frequently.
