Why You Should Get Your Old Crowns Replaced in Swindon

Dental crowns are used commonly in modern dentistry to restore and repair damaged and broken teeth. Crowns are made from strong stuff, but occasionally they can become worn and damaged. If you have old crowns or your crown is damaged, why not arrange to come and see us so we can replace your worn crown with a stunning new porcelain crown?

Why would I need a crown?

Crowns are sometimes known as caps, and they work to strengthen damaged, worn or broken teeth by sitting on top of the existing tooth structure. With a crown, the tooth is stronger and more resistant, and it will also look more attractive. The procedure involves removing decayed tissue from the tooth, reducing the risk of infection and further damage to the tooth. You may be advised to have a crown if:
  • you have extensive decay
  • your tooth has been weakened by a large filling
  • you have injured your tooth
  • you are having restorative or tooth replacement treatment, such as bridgework or implants

Replacing old crowns

Crowns are hard-wearing and durable but they are not considered to be a permanent solution and they usually last for around 10 years. Once a crown becomes worn, it is advisable to replace it with a new crown to improve the function of the tooth and reduce the risk of dental injuries. Uneven crowns can increase the risk of injuries, as well as contributing to an elevated risk of bruxism (tooth grinding). At Clifton Dental Studio, we pride ourselves on offering the highest possible standards of restorative dental care and we use high grade materials, including porcelain, to produce natural looking, durable crowns. The crown replacement procedure usually involves 2-3 sessions. We will talk you through the process when you have your consultation and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Get Yourself a Christmas Crown and Smile Your Way into the New Year in Bristol

Crowns are usually reserved for Kings and Queens, but at Clifton Dental Studio we believe that every patient should be treated as a VIP! We can provide Christmas crowns to ensure that you start the New Year with a beaming smile.

What are crowns?

Crowns are restorative appliances, that are designed to strengthen and protect the teeth. They sit over your natural tooth and help to prevent damage and spread of infection. Crowns are also known as caps. You may be advised to have crown treatment if you have had a large filling in the past, your tooth has been damaged extensively or your tooth is infected. Crowns help to make a weak tooth stronger, and the procedure involves removing decayed tissue to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria spreading through the tooth. In cases where an infection has reached the pulp tissue, it is common to perform root canal treatment and then place a new crown. Crowns can also have aesthetic benefits. We can also use crowns to replace a missing tooth. In this case, the crown is attached to a dental implant. The implant replaces the root section of the lost tooth.

How long does a crown last?

Once a crown has been placed, it should last for around 10 years. Crowns can be made from metals or ceramics and treatment usually takes 2 sessions. The first session is designed to prepare the tooth and the second session involves placing the crown. A temporary crown will be fitted to bridge the gap between the 1st and 2nd appointments.  It’s important to take good care of a crown and look after it in the same way as a natural tooth. We will check your crown at every routine check-up.

Dental Crowns Fit for a King in Chepstow

Crowns are usually reserved for kings and queens, but at Clifton Dental Studio, we believe all our patients deserve the royal treatment. With our incredible dental crowns, we can create strong, beautiful teeth to make you look and feel like a VIP.

About dental crowns

Dental crowns are restorations, and are used to strengthen teeth following accidents, injuries or infections that leave them weak and vulnerable. Crowns are placed over the top of the tooth, and they help to protect the tooth from damage, decrease the risk of a spread of infection and make the tooth look more attractive. We often recommend porcelain crowns, as they produce stunning, natural looking aesthetics and offer strength and durability. We can use crowns alone or as part of more intensive restorative treatment, such as dental implant treatment or bridgework.

What happens when a tooth is crowned?

Before a tooth is crowned, the tooth is prepared. This involves removing all the decayed tissue, cleaning the tooth thoroughly and then shaping it. Once the tooth is ready, we will use dental putty to create a mould of your tooth. This is used by our highly skilled technicians to create your bespoke crown. When your crown is ready, we will place it over the top of your tooth and then secure it firmly using strong dental adhesive. It should fit perfectly and you should find that you get used to it very quickly. Modern crowns are much lighter and less cumbersome than the restorations of old.

How long should my crown last?

Crowns usually last for around 10 years provided that they are well looked-after.

About dental crowns

Dental crowns, sometimes known as caps, are restorations that are used to strengthen teeth that have been weakened by injury, decay or trauma. With a crown, we are able to build up the tooth and restore its function, reducing the risk of infection and crumbling and enabling you to keep your tooth. Crowns are placed over the top of the tooth and they can be made from various materials such as porcelain, which gives a lovely natural looking finish. Crowns are designed for strength and durability as well as a aesthetics and they should last for up to ten years. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene, as although it’s not possible for the porcelain to decay, the area of the tooth that joins the crown can become infected.

Crown treatment

We usually carry out crown treatment over a period of two weeks with two separate treatment sessions. During the first session, we will prepare the tooth and create an impression to be used by dental technicians to create your custom-made crown. Preparing the tooth involves removing the decayed tissue, cleaning the tooth thoroughly and shaping it. Once the new crown is ready, the second session can take place. This is usually around 14 days later. The crown is placed over the tooth and then secured using adhesive. We will check that it fits perfectly and then you will be free to go and enjoy your new healthy tooth!

Bath gets the royal Porcelain Crown treatment

2904387_blogWe use the latest high quality materials to produce natural looking, durable crowns, which will enhance your smile and strengthen your teeth. Crowns are a type of restoration, which are used to make the teeth stronger following an accident or injury or damage caused by decay. Crowns are also sometimes known as caps because they sit over the top of the tooth. Our porcelain crowns look like healthy natural teeth and it is not possible to distinguish between the crown and the natural tooth. As well as making the tooth stronger and helping to reduce the risk of further damage, crowns can also enhance the look of your smile. If you have extensive decay, a broken tooth or an oral infection, you may benefit from a new crown. Crowns are also commonly used after dental implant treatment, bridge work and root canal therapy. Our crowns are custom-made for each individual by highly trained dental technicians; the crown is made based on an impression of the tooth and this means that it will fit perfectly. Before a crown is placed, the tooth is prepared to remove the decayed tissue; this helps to prevent infection from spreading. Once the crown has been made, it is then placed over the top of the tooth and fixed in position using dental adhesive.

Easy Crowns in Bristol

It is down purely to technological advances in the computer and laser surgery that have helped make the dental treatments you get in Bristol, slicker, painless and most importantly to the busier people in the city, faster. Dental crowns have been around for decades, helping people to get over tooth decay and loss. They also help to retain the status quo of the mouth’s bite, and ensure that there is no extra strain on the jaws. Crowns are manufactured from two basic materials, gold and porcelain and once they are made, they can be placed accordingly into the mouth. To make them normally takes a couple of weeks, although with a full porcelain crown, it can be made in around 30 minutes if you can find a dentist who offers CEREC treatments. However, once your dentist has the crown on the table, fitting it will take at most, half an hour and once it has had a little spit and polish, you are done: your teeth will be fully restored and your smile will look great once more. If you want to know more about the joys and relief that crowns bring to your mouth, and just how easy they are to pop in, then get along to Clifton Dental and find out more; they can give you top advice on the types of crowns you can have and how much they will set you back.

The purity of Porcelain Crowns in Gloucester

Crowns are a lovely way to forget the problems you may have suffered due to tooth loss or some form of decay, as they can repair all of the things that may have gone wrong and put that beautiful smile back on your face once more. Some people love to go for gold when it comes to having a crown fitted- they have strength and razzamatazz in equal levels. But if you prefer the more natural approach, porcelain veneers are the way forward and porcelain fits into the natural karma of the mouth, mirroring the naturalness of your teeth’s enamel: they come in two different forms; if it is strength that you require, say to the back of the mouth where your crown will be required to do a lot of chewing work then you can order a porcelain-over-metal crown, as these are very strong. But if your crown only has to look gorgeous and do the minimal amount of work, then you can opt for a full porcelain crown. Both types of porcelain crown can be colour matched to fit in with the rest of your teeth to give you a completely natural look. They aren’t that expensive, but essential in retaining the overall future health of your mouth; if you’d like to know more about crowns, how they can help you or indeed any thing else dental, give Clifton Dental of Bristol a call, for they serve the Gloucester area and are experts in all fields of dentistry.

Cracking Dental Crowns in Chepstow

Crowns have been floating around the world of dentistry for decades now and they do invaluable work at helping to restore a tooth if it has been injured or has succumbed to decay. Generally, to keep the visual harmony going in the smile, most people will opt for a crown made from porcelain and depending on where the crown needs to be placed in the mouth, it will govern how the crown will be constructed. A crown at the back of the mouth will undergo a lot of stress caused by chewing, so it will have to be strong, in which case, a porcelain-over-metal crown would be used because of its strength. Towards the front of the mouth however, you can get away with using a crown made entirely from porcelain. But in both of these cases, some people opt for gold- again strong, yet it does rather come across a bit of a status symbol as well if it is put on show at the front of the mouth. Crowns are also used for replacing missing teeth and can be used in bridgework or in conjunction with a dental implant. Getting a crown fitted in Weston-super-mare

If you have ever had really bad tooth decay in Weston-super-mare, you will probably know that in order to save your tooth from extraction, you are going to have to have the dead tissue removed from the tooth and then have the roots removed as well- a root canal treatment. But in order to keep your teeth ‘biting’ as they should to protect the way your jaws come together and the overall health of your mouth and stop the problem from spreading further, you are going to have to dip your hand in your pocket for some of restorative treatment to get the tooth back to it’s best- a dental crown is your answer. Now, modern dentistry not only offers you what is ‘hip’ and what is ‘in’ right now, but also offers you the choice of which crown you would like. They come in a few variations- gold crowns are strong and can withstand the forces that are put into the mouth on an everyday basis; so too are porcelain-over-metal crowns- these are the preferable choices if you need to have a crown fitted towards the rear of the mouth and that can cope with all that chewing and indeed, gossiping that you do everyday, If you have suffered a bit of decay at the front of the mouth however, again the choice is yours, but you may get away with a purely porcelain crown, as the stresses at the front of the mouth are not as harsh as at the back and porcelain is one of the most natural substances on the planet that complements the natural hue that your teeth give off.
