Today, there are some really impressive treatments around to replace missing teeth, so if you have a missing tooth, there’s no need to panic. At Clifton Dental Studio we understand what a difference a healthy smile makes and we are delighted to offer a range of treatment options for patients who have lost teeth through injury, decay, gum disease or trauma.
Our treatment choices include dental bridges, dentures and dental implants.
Bridges
Dental bridges are an easy, affordable and effective solution for lost teeth and they are a great choice for patients who have a single lost tooth or a small number of missing teeth. A traditional fixed dental bridge is made up of a false tooth anchored on either side by a crown. Bridges can be made from ceramics for a natural aesthetic and they should last up to 15 years, provided they are well cared-for. Treatment usually involves 2-3 sessions and takes 2-3 weeks.
Dentures
Dentures are sets of false teeth designed to look and function like natural teeth. We offer partial and complete dentures made from the finest quality materials to produce durable dentures that look healthy and bright. Dentures are suitable for patients with multiple missing teeth and they are bespoke. Denture treatment is swift and painless and once you have your dentures, we will check the fit regularly to prevent any irritation.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are a long-term option for tooth loss and they offer many benefits including enhanced functionality, natural aesthetics and easy maintenance. The treatment process is more invasive than other treatments and treatment time is much longer. However, once implants are in place, they are very easy to care for and they last for many years.
Our expert dentists will be happy to weigh up the options with you and discuss the pros and cons. Every patient is different and what is best for one client may not be ideal for another. When you have a consultation, we can assess your needs and ascertain your treatment preferences and expectations and then provide you with the information you need to help you make a decision.
Smile rejuvenation, also known as complete mouth reconstruction, is an intensive restorative process. It may be recommended if you have severely damaged teeth as a result of extensive decay, injuries caused by accidents or trauma or dental erosion. The aim of this treatment is to restore, repair and replace the teeth to create a youthful, attractive and functional smile.
Dr Neil Gerrard has extensive experience in this field and you can rest assured that you will be in the best hands. Dr Gerrard will talk you through every step of the process, explain which treatments are necessary, show you what a difference treatment will make and what you can expect once your rejuvenation is complete.
The process
The planning stage for smile rejuvenation is the most important phase of treatment. At this point, Dr Gerrard will work with you to establish the best treatments and plan your treatment in detail. To begin with, Dr Gerrard will carry out a thorough examination of your mouth to check your teeth and gums and ascertain what needs to be done and which treatments will be beneficial. We will also carry out X-rays to get a detailed image of the bone structure and build up an accurate picture of what the mouth looks like now and how it will look once treatment is complete.
During the consultation stage, we will also chat to you to establish your treatment goals and find out what kinds of results you hope and expect to achieve. It’s important to us that we get it right, so we invite you to share your ideas and bring in photographs. Honesty and transparency are key, so we make recommendations based on what is possible and if for some reason a treatment choice is not quite right, we will be happy to make alternative suggestions.
We use a range of treatments including veneers, dental crowns, bridges and implants. If implant treatment is required, treatment may take a little longer. However, the results will be well worth the wait. Dr Gerrard will discuss time-frame with you and plan your appointments in line with your individual plan.
The outcome
The aim of smile rejuvenation is to achieve a healthy looking, beautiful smile that matches your ideas and exceeds your expectations.
The teeth are naturally white, but they can easily become discoloured as a result of diet, lifestyle habits, poor oral hygiene and general wear and tear. If your teeth start to look a little stained, this can affect your confidence as well as the look of your smile. However, there are treatments available that can restore whiteness and brighten the teeth.
Hygiene treatment
In cases of very mild discolouration, hygiene treatment can help to remove surface stains and make the teeth look whiter. Hygiene treatments can also really help to boost oral health and reduce the risk of dental health problems. Your hygienist can also help you to learn which foods and drinks to avoid to reduce the risk of discolouration and staining, such as coffee, tea, red and white wine and fizzy drinks, and show you how to brush and floss effectively.
Teeth whitening
If you want your smile to look noticeably whiter and brighter, teeth whitening treatment is a simple, safe and painless option. We offer a range of whitening treatment options, including in-chair treatments and home whitening systems designed to bleach the teeth to lighten the shade and make the smile look healthy, youthful and radiant. Whitening is one of the simplest ways of making your smile look amazing and the results should last a long time.
Veneers
Veneers are famed for creating glamorous smiles, but they can also achieve a very natural and subtle aesthetic. Veneers are most commonly made from porcelain and they are placed on top of your teeth. They are made to fit and they are extremely thin and light. You can choose from different shades and shapes to design your perfect smile.

If a gummy smile is getting you down, we have the perfect solution to banish those winter blues and have you beaming with confidence. Gum reshaping is a cosmetic dental procedure used to balance the appearance of the smile by altering the shape of the gums and increasing the amount of tooth tissue that is visible when you smile.
How does gum reshaping work?
Gum reshaping is a procedure that is used to create a more attractive smile and it provides a solution for patients who have a gummy smile. A gummy smile is a term given when a large amount of the tooth is covered by gum tissue. There are no unpleasant medical symptoms, but the appearance of the smile is affected and this can make people feel self-conscious. By altering the shape of the gums and removing a small amount of gum tissue, we can balance the look of the smile by uncovering more of the tooth tissue. A gummy smile tends to make the teeth look short and small and we can use the latest techniques to make them look larger and longer for a more attractive aesthetic.
With gum reshaping, we gently trim away excess gum tissue to unveil more of the tooth structure. This enhances the look of the smile and helps to promote confidence. Typically, treatment can be completed in a single session.
We use modern techniques to minimise pain and accelerate healing.
Could I benefit from gum reshaping?
If you feel that your gums take over your smile or your teeth look very small, you could probably benefit from gum reshaping. This is a simple and safe procedure that produces really effective results quickly with minimal pain and no hassle at all. Our expert dentists can help to contour the gums to make your smile look amazing and increase your confidence, especially in situations where your smile is in the spotlight. The results that can be achieved by modern dentistry are truly amazing. We are proud to offer a host of innovative orthodontic, restorative and cosmetic dental treatments to enable all our patients to enjoy healthy, beautiful smiles.
Quality lies at the heart of what we do, and we use only the finest materials to produce high grade restorations and tooth replacements. Porcelain is one of our favourite materials, as it enables us to provide our patients with stunning aesthetics and highly effective treatment. Here are just a few examples of how we use porcelain to create sparkling smiles in Bath, Bristol and beyond:
Porcelain veneers
Veneers are wafer-thin shells made from porcelain. They are fixed to the surface of the natural teeth to produce a beautiful new smile. Porcelain is a popular choice because it has a beautiful glossy sheen and matches the shade of healthy, bright teeth. Veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth and they provide an excellent solution for people who have worn, stained or misshapen teeth.
Porcelain crowns
Dental crowns are restorations that sit over the top of a damaged or decayed tooth to make it stronger. Porcelain crowns look exactly like natural teeth, as they match the shade of the tooth perfectly for a seamless finish. They are durable and hard-wearing and they can have a really positive impact on the overall look of the smile.
Porcelain dental bridges
Dental bridges are an affordable and effective treatment for patients who have missing teeth. Bridges are commonly used to replace a single lost tooth and they can last up to 15 years. Treatment usually takes 2-3 weeks, with 2 sessions. Although bridges can be made from ceramic and metals, porcelain is a very popular choice because it provides very lifelike and attractive aesthetics.

What is smile rejuvenation?
Smile rejuvenation treatment is designed to transform broken, worn and missing teeth into beautiful, healthy looking smiles. Our expert dentists use the latest treatments and techniques, including: crowns, fillings, implants, dental bridges and veneers to reconstruct the mouth, improve oral health and create healthy, attractive smiles.
If you have worn, broken or missing teeth due to injury, ill health, decay or erosion, smile rejuvenation can help to make you feel more confident when you smile.
What does treatment involve?
There are various different treatments that can be used as part of smile rejuvenation treatment, and we tailor the treatment plan to suit the individual’s needs. The planning stage is really important, as it enables us to assess your needs and find effective solutions to improve your oral health and the aesthetic of your smile. Your dentist will explore different options with you and explain how treatments work and how they could benefit you.
Once your treatment plan has been devised, your dentist will talk you through the procedures and ensure that you understand what is going to happen when. Treatment times vary according to the treatments you have, and some take less than an hour while others can take months.
Smile rejuvenation, also known as full mouth reconstruction, is a service we offer to transform the smile and enable patients with severe dental needs to enjoy greater confidence.
What is smile rejuvenation?
We recommend smile rejuvenation for patients who require extensive dental treatment as a result of severe decay, periodontal disease, injuries or problems sustained as a result of an accident or trauma. We use a series of treatments which may include dental bridges, crowns, dental implants and veneers to reconstruct the teeth and create a beautiful new aesthetic.
Dr Neil Gerrard has many years of experience in advanced restorative dentistry, and is renowned for achieving amazing outcomes. We can assure you that you are in the best hands!
The treatment process
The planning stage is of paramount importance and we devote time to assessing each individual patient, analysing their dental needs and evaluating the strength of your bone tissue, oral health status and bite. The aim of the assessment is to build up an accurate picture of your mouth and determine the best course of action for going forward. We do this by using digital X-rays and thorough examinations.
During the planning stage, we will discuss treatment options with you. We’ll outline what the different treatments offer and what procedures entail, and we’ll build up a picture of what we expect to achieve. Your ideas are very important to us and we work as a team to create the designs for your new smile.
How long does treatment take?
When you have your consultation and you have decided which treatments you are going to have, your dentist will be able to give you an accurate prediction of treatment time. The time treatment takes is heavily dependent on the treatments involved. If you have specific date or occasion in mind, we can work with this and tailor your treatment package to the desired time-frame.
Very few people have perfectly proportioned, straight teeth, but thankfully, if you’re one of the many people who have gaps between their teeth, we can help. We have a range of treatment options available to close those gaps and make your smile look incredible.
Treatment options for gaps between the teeth
Orthodontic treatment: if you have large gaps between the smile or additional orthodontic issues, such as problems with the bite, orthodontic treatment is often the best course of action. Braces are used to move the teeth, closing the gaps, aligning the top and bottom teeth and creating a more balanced and attractive smile. Our orthodontic treatments include the Inman Aligner, 6 Month Smiles and Invisalign, all of which provide amazingly discreet aesthetics and incredible results.
Cosmetic bonding: cosmetic bonding is a great choice for patients who have a couple of gaps or a gap between just two of the teeth. This is a minor treatment, which involves a very simple and completely pain-free procedure. Your dentist will use dental composite, a white material, which is used for white fillings, to fill in the gap between two teeth. Treatment usually takes less than an hour, there is no drilling and no need for anaesthetic and you’ll be amazed at what a difference such a simple procedure makes!
Veneers: veneers are a cosmetic solution for gaps between the teeth and they can also be effective for those with chipped, stained or worn teeth. Veneers don’t close the gaps between the teeth, but they do cover spaces, so the smile looks much more attractive. There are various different shades and shapes available, so you can design your own perfect smile!

If you’re looking for a terrific tooth-coloured filling this autumn, why not pop in and see us? Our white fillings are designed to preserve and strengthen teeth that have cavities. The procedure is simple and quick and you won’t be able to notice the filling at all!
The benefits of white fillings
White fillings blend in with the natural tooth shade and it’s impossible to detect them when you smile. With white fillings, the teeth look much healthier and more attractive than with metal fillings. We choose the closest shade of dental composite to the natural tooth to ensure a seamless finish.
In addition to providing natural looking aesthetics, white fillings are also strong and durable and they are considered much safer than mercury amalgam fillings.
We are able to replace mercury amalgam fillings, as well as placing new white fillings.
The procedure
When you have a filling, the procedure usually takes around one hour. Before treatment begins, we will use local anaesthetic to numb the tooth so you don’t feel any pain. When your tooth is numb, your dentist will drill into the tooth to remove decayed tissue from the cavity. The cavity is then cleaned to ensure that is free from harmful decay and reduce the risk of infection spreading through the tooth.
Once the cavity is completely clear, we will place the dental composite inside and shape it to fit the hole. The dental composite is soft and malleable at this stage, so we can mould it very easily. Once the cavity has been filled, a curing light is used to set the composite and make it firm. To finish off, your dentist will trim the composite to ensure it fits perfectly and looks great.
If you’d like to replace an old mercury filling or you’re interested in tooth-coloured fillings, call us and book your appointment now!
